Summer Citrus Sangria

A truly authentic sangria doesn't have much more than fruit and wine but once upon a time a friend made a sangria recipe she found in a magazine and I've been using that as a base recipe ever since.  I have searched and searched for that original recipe so that I could credit the magazine that published it but I've never been able to find it.  If you do, please, PLEASE send me a link!

I was in a citrus mood this weekend and just happened to have a bottle of orange vodka so I decided to go with an all-citrus line-up but you can certainly change this up any way you like!

Summer Citrus Sangria
1 ruby red grapefruit (though mine sure wasn't very red!)
1 lime
1 orange
1 lemon
1 1/4 cup sugar (or to taste)
1 cup orange vodka*
1 bottle chardonnay
1 can lemon-lime soda

Clean and slice the fruit reserving half of the grapefruit.  Juice the reserved grapefruit half and add juice to a 2-quart pitcher.  Add fruit slices, sugar and vodka to pitcher and stir until sugar is dissolved.  Let fruit mixture rest for at least 4 hours (or overnight).

When ready to serve, add chardonnay and lemon-lime soda.  Serve over ice.

*I used Absolut Mandrin

Original Sangria Recipe

1 cup sugar
1 cup vodka
1 cup triple sec
1 bottle dry white wine
1 can lemon-lime soda

Clean and slice the fruit and add to a 2-quart pitcher.  Add sugar, vodka and triple sec and stir until sugar is dissolved.  Let fruit mixture rest for at least 4 hours (or overnight).

When ready to serve add wine and lemon-lime soda.  Serve over ice.

  1. When you say to let the fruit rest, should it rest in the refrigerator?

    1. It really doesn't matter since the vodka will "preserve" the fruit and juice but I usually do pop mine in the fridge :)

Hi there! While I’m not able to respond to every comment, I try hard to answer any questions that haven’t been addressed in the post, recipe or in other comments.

I can tell you now 1) I have no idea if you can substitute Minute Rice or brown rice in my recipes because I’ve never used them and 2) If I know how to convert a recipe to a Crock Pot version, I will make a note about it (otherwise, I don’t know).

And though I may not respond to them all, I do read each and every comment and I LOVE to hear from you guys! Thanks, y’all! - Mandy
