Southern Thanksgiving Recipes

If you've been around here long you already know this but Thanksgiving is my MOST favorite holiday EVER!! And this year, some of my Canadians are coming to visit so I really want to lay out a spread!

Here are the recipes I plan on making for my Thanksgiving dinner this year (and hopefully if I have time I’ll update some of these photos taken during my “early days” before I learned what little I know about food photography.

We may not cook all of them but Mama and I will try hard to get all this on the table. We usually only have turkey but since we're having company I want to bake a ham too since it's so good to have around when you have guests (you can fry it up for breakfast, make ham salad, have it on sandwiches and make a big ol' pot of ham and beans).

And if I had to tell you one recipe to be sure to try, it would have to be the Jive Turkey! I'm telling ya, it'll rock your world! If you want the moistest, most flavorful turkey EVER, this is the one for you!

I’d LOVE to know what you’re cooking! Comment below and tell me what’s on your menu!

  4. I just found your blog and I LOVE it! We have been on a 10 year search for a recipe that matches my MaMaw's cornbread stuffing. She made hers in the crockpot - but I think if the taste is right, I can adapt any recipe for the crockpot eventually. I'm gonna give yours a try this week. I'm sure it's going to be devine (sounds perfect, right down to the eggs), but fingers crossed it can pass the "Dad" test! :)

Thanks and can’t wait for your next post!

  8. Sounds like my dinner only turkey will be fried and zucchini will be replaced with corn pudding. Nothing like a good old southern Thanksgiving using old recipe from my mother and great grandmother. Also bread pudding with apples.

  9. I was told that you cannot brine most turkeys only the fresh ones, because the others already have been treated with a solution to keep them from drying out? is this accurate?

    1. Almost all poultry we buy in the grocery store has been injected with some sort of solution. It's usually just water to make it weigh more (so they can charge us more). I've never encountered a frozen turkey that didn't turn out perfectly using this recipe.

Hi there! While I’m not able to respond to every comment, I try hard to answer any questions that haven’t been addressed in the post, recipe or in other comments.

I can tell you now 1) I have no idea if you can substitute Minute Rice or brown rice in my recipes because I’ve never used them and 2) If I know how to convert a recipe to a Crock Pot version, I will make a note about it (otherwise, I don’t know).

And though I may not respond to them all, I do read each and every comment and I LOVE to hear from you guys! Thanks, y’all! - Mandy
