Southern Thanksgiving Recipes
Here are the recipes I plan on making for my Thanksgiving dinner this year (and hopefully if I have time I’ll update some of these photos taken during my “early days” before I learned what little I know about food photography.
We may not cook all of them but Mama and I will try hard to get all this on the table. We usually only have turkey but since we're having company I want to bake a ham too since it's so good to have around when you have guests (you can fry it up for breakfast, make ham salad, have it on sandwiches and make a big ol' pot of ham and beans).
And if I had to tell you one recipe to be sure to try, it would have to be the Jive Turkey! I'm telling ya, it'll rock your world! If you want the moistest, most flavorful turkey EVER, this is the one for you!
I’d LOVE to know what you’re cooking! Comment below and tell me what’s on your menu!

Hi there! While I’m not able to respond to every comment, I try hard to answer any questions that haven’t been addressed in the post, recipe or in other comments.
I can tell you now 1) I have no idea if you can substitute Minute Rice or brown rice in my recipes because I’ve never used them and 2) If I know how to convert a recipe to a Crock Pot version, I will make a note about it (otherwise, I don’t know).
And though I may not respond to them all, I do read each and every comment and I LOVE to hear from you guys! Thanks, y’all! - Mandy

DeleteAll your dishes look very yummy, looks like you are looking forward to a perfect Thanksgiving :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I LOVE it! We have been on a 10 year search for a recipe that matches my MaMaw's cornbread stuffing. She made hers in the crockpot - but I think if the taste is right, I can adapt any recipe for the crockpot eventually. I'm gonna give yours a try this week. I'm sure it's going to be devine (sounds perfect, right down to the eggs), but fingers crossed it can pass the "Dad" test! :)

Thanks and can’t wait for your next post!
I'm probably having some chicken be=reast and maybe some stuffing with gravy this year. Just cooking for me. My son is in Afghanistan this year for all the holidays. :(
ReplyDeleteI will spend my thanksgiving praying for safety and peace for your son and comfort for you through the holidays. Tell your son we said "thank you" for his service and we wish you and your son a safe and blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas! :-)
Deleteoh gosh I meant chicken breast. LOL
ReplyDeletemmmmmmmm! so glad I discovered your blog :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like my dinner only turkey will be fried and zucchini will be replaced with corn pudding. Nothing like a good old southern Thanksgiving using old recipe from my mother and great grandmother. Also bread pudding with apples.
ReplyDeleteI was told that you cannot brine most turkeys only the fresh ones, because the others already have been treated with a solution to keep them from drying out? is this accurate?
ReplyDeleteAlmost all poultry we buy in the grocery store has been injected with some sort of solution. It's usually just water to make it weigh more (so they can charge us more). I've never encountered a frozen turkey that didn't turn out perfectly using this recipe.
DeleteEverythings is divine, turkey was moist, yummy bookmarked it for life! Thank you!
